Setting the Hatch Pattern

This tech tip explains how to select a hatch pattern from the various hatch fill types.

Go to Draw > Hatch (or click on the hatch icon in the toolbar), then click on the Settings button in the Draw Hatch cad bar:

The hatch entity can have one of four fill types:
  • Predefined Pattern
  • User defined Pattern
  • Solid Fill
  • Gradient Fill

Predefined Pattern
You can fill the hatch region from one of over 216 predefined hatch patterns (including some ANSI and ISO patterns).

Choose pattern colour, background colour (if needed), Pattern angle and Pattern Scale. The 'Sample' window should reflect the changes:

User defined Pattern
This option allows you to define your own hatch pattern by specifying the spacing and angle of the hatch lines. The style of the hatch is similar to Predefined Pattern “ANSI31”.

The 'Crosshatch' option can also be specified, which will draw a second set of hatch lines perpendicular to the pattern angle. The hatch pen, layer, line type, line weight and elevation can all be set in the CAD’s top control bar. Note that Pattern name selection box is disabled when User defined Pattern is selected.

Solid Fill hatch type.
Solid fill hatch type fills the hatch region with a single colour. Click on Fill colour to change the solid fill pen:

Gradient Fill
Gradient Fill hatch type fills the hatch region with a colour gradient. This is displayed as a smooth transition between the hatch’s two gradient colours. There are 8 gradient patterns to select from:

Click OK to save your hatch settings.
