Making Selections using the Advanced Selection Filter
This tech tip explains how to use the Advanced Selection Filter.
Open the sample drawing called STEEL.sample.dr4
In Windows 7 / Vista, this is located at C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Knowledge Base Software\Sample Drawings
In Windows XP, it is located at C:\ Documents and Settings \ All Users \ Shared Documents\ Knowledge Base Software\Sample Drawings

For the sake of this example we will make a filter for all red lines.
Go to
Edit > Select by Filter > Advanced. The Section Filter dialog will display.
Choose
Make Filter > All entities and select 'Line'. Under
All Properties select '
Colour' = '
1' (Red).
Click on
Append. Make sure the option
Apply filter immedetely to the entire drawing is checked. Click
OK.

Only lines with colour red (Pen 1) should be selected and SF (Selection Filter) at the bottom of your screen should be turned
red (ON).
Click on
SF to disable or enable the selection filter.
NOTE: If
SF is active (Red), you will only be able to modify entities / styles specified on the Selection Filter. Click on
SF to switch off selection filter.
To Reset selection filter go back to
Edit > Select by Filter > Advanced then click on
Reset.
Editing a Filter List
Select
Edit > Select by Filter > Advanced. The Selection Filter dialog will display.
To Edit a list click on Edit.
In the 'Make Filter' section of the dialog box select the entity you want to edit (eg 'Text') and then set the properties (eg 'All Properties').
Click on
Append.
If you need to edit a specific style according to its properties then you can select “Linear Dimension” and a Height Factor of 3.15 for example.
Click on
Append.
Ensure that 'Apply filter immediately to the entire drawing' is selected and also check the 'Add to axisting selection set' option.
To select all filter lists, use the Shift key while selecting multiple filters.
With the Shift key still depressed, click on
OR
Click
OK

Removing a Filter List
Select
Edit > Select by Filter > Advanced. The Section Filter dialog will display.
Under 'Filter List', highlight the list by clicking on the list you want to remove then click
Remove.
Resetting a Filter List
Select
Edit > Select by Filter > Advanced. The Section Filter dialog will display.
Click
Reset.
