If you can't establish a connection at all/cannot even start a download...
Your browser may
not support FTP downloading. The best solution is to upgrade to a
current version of a browser such as
Netscape Navigator (Netscape website) or
Internet Explorer (Microsoft website). You also can try using
an FTP or downloading utility instead. Popular Windows shareware
downloading utilities include
GetRight (Headlight Software website) or
Go!Zilla (Go!Zilla website).

If you're told that no FTP port can be opened or that the server is busy...
The maximum
number of users is probably already logged on to the server. Wait
a few moments, and then try again.
If you're a
Windows user trying to download software, and see a message like,
"Web page [or site] cannot be found" or "Could not log in to FTP
server"...
Your web browser
may not understand files of type .exe. To fix this problem, check
your browser's preferences to be sure that it is set to recognize
.exe files and save them to your disk.

Download - Do not try to RUN APP from the Internet
When you initiate a download, your browser may give you two
options; Save To Disk or Run App. The first option
downloads the file to your HARD DISK. Then you can disconnect from
the Internet if you wish and install the product. The second
option runs the file from the Internet. This can be very
unreliable, please choose the first option.

Virus Protection Software installed on your computer that may corrupt the download
Some virus protection software products may corrupt an EXE file during downloading or may warn you of the dangers of downloading EXE files. Turn off your virus protection software for the download. Then, if you are wary of our intentions, perform a virus check on the download file after it is complete.

If you downloaded a file, but it doesn't install and run correctly...
First, check to
be sure that you have downloaded the correct installer for your
operating system. For example, if you are using Microsoft Windows,
check that you have downloaded an installer for Windows, not
Macintosh.
Second, the file
may have been corrupted during the download, heavy traffic or
problems with the server can prevent them being available
temporarily. Very large programs downloaded over a dial-up
connection can often be corrupted due to poor connection, line
problems, etc. First, try re-downloading it, but before you do so,
Be sure that
your browser is not set to automatically disconnect after a
certain number of minutes of inactivity
In Internet
Explorer,
1. In the Start menu, open Settings >
Control Panel.
2. Press Internet Options.
3. Click the Connection tab.
4. Press the Setting button.
5. Press Advanced.
6. Uncheck the box next to "disconnected if idle for (blank)
minutes."
Your ISP shouldn't disconnect you again without your permission.
The only way this won't work is if your ISP is doing the
disconnecting. Many ISPs will boot you off for an idle connection
whether you want them to or not
Consider disabling your screen
saver, to ensure that it does not interfere with the download.
Windows 2000: On
a Dell computer running Windows 2000 with Yamaha SoftSynthesizer,
the hourglass may appear, but the program doesn't launch. The
Yamaha SoftSynthesizer conflicts with any program made with
FileMaker Pro (specifically, the Electronic ICS Forms and the ESI
Viewer). To determine if you have a Yamaha SoftSynthesizer, go to
your Windows Start menu, then to Settings, then to Control Panel,
then to Add/Remove Programs. At the end of the list, see if you
have any products listed under Yamaha. If you do, uninstall the
Yamaha product and you will then be able to start the installer.
For further information on this conflict, please see this
FileMaker Pro Support page [Filemaker website].

Very slow download or freezing half way through.
The AllyCAD
freeware file is over 30 MB in size. This could take as long as 2 hours using a 56K modem to download, if you are shown a time
longer than this (unless you have a slow modem and are used to
these times), or things freeze up, it is recommended that you stop
the download and click on the link again or come back to it a
little later. Heavy traffic slows connections, sometimes to a
halt, so please try and return at a non peak time. Off-peak hours
include early in the morning or after midnight. Very large
programs downloaded over a dial-up connection can often be
corrupted due to poor connection, line problems, etc.

If you see the message, "Corrupt file," while you're downloading a file...
If you're using web filtering software, uninstall it, then try the
download again. If you just can't download the file using your
browser, try using an FTP utility instead.
Sometimes heavy traffic or problems with the server they are located on prevent them being available temporarily. Please try again later.

If you see the message, "Corrupt file," while you're running a downloaded file...
This message
is sometimes a sign of an incomplete or corrupted file download.
Re-download the software and try again.
Sometimes the
file appears to download but when you double click it to install
the program, a message appears saying something like "invalid or
corrupt data, can't open file". The most likely cause of this
message is an incomplete download of the file. Sometimes your
Browser will tell you that the download has completed when in fact
it has skipped the last few kilobytes. If this is the case please
try downloading the program again later.

Netscape Problems
The problems with Netscape could be a result of Netscape Smartdownload plug-in. Smartdownload supports FTP
and HTTP protocols and file types *.EXE, *.ZIP, and *.IDP. There present version only supports *.EXE when downloading from FTP sites. This could explain why you cannot install the software when using Smartdownload. Netscape's
web-site says the HTTP *.EXE support will be coming soon. When you start a download the Smartdownload window comes up and it has an advanced button that allows you to deselect the support for EXE and ZIP files but it doesn't
take affect until you start a new download. Netscape has not provided a way to get back to the Smartdownlaod window to reselect the EXE and ZIP support. It indicates that *.IDP files are supported and if you start a download
of this file type you could then reselect the EXE and ZIP support. AllyCAD freeware therefore cannot be downloaded and installed using Smartdownload until Netscape upgrades it to support HTTP protocol for EXE files."

If you've tried the remedies we've suggested and nothing works...
Try clearing your cached web pages:
In Internet Explorer, select View/Internet Options, then, under "Temporary Internet Files", click "Delete Files,"
In Netscape, select Edit/Preferences, then, under the "Advanced" category, select "Cache". Then click "Clear Memory Cache" and/or "Clear Disk Cache."
Try using an FTP utility.
