SUPPORTING ENGINEERING EDUCATION
 |
The interest in engineering education began in earnest when it was first discovered that black students coming from Dept of Education and Training schools with good matric results struggled to cope with demanding engineering programmes.
|
This prompted the introduction of the Academic Support Programme for Engineering in UCT in 1988, and the induction of new engineering curricula in 1995. Despite these efforts, the success rate of previously disadvantaged candidates is still lagging behind in all engineering disciplines, resulting in urgent action from industry players to lend assistance in the transfer of design skills.
As an industry partner that supports the efforts of engineering education, Knowledge Base is currently receiving applications for our new Academy School which will be launched in 2007. The Academy will provide outcomes based training across a broad range of technical drawing skills and also include an introduction into civil engineering principals and practice. The training programme will be fully sponsored by Knowledge Base and successful graduates will receive assistance with the sourcing of permanent employment at a leading civil engineering consulting practice. DRAWING OFFICE MANAGER
 |
AllyCAD allows the user to activate a Drawing Office Manager (DOM for short) so that a record of every
drawing can be maintained. The DOM provides the facility to keep track of a comprehensive
drawing record including the drawing descriptions,
the draftsperson drawing it, the department it is being drawn in,
the paper size, scale and units used, the number of

hours spent on it, the date it was last updated and the date it was last plotted and more.
If the Display on all save option is selected, this dialog above will appear each
time the drawing is saved.
The drawing information is stored in an ASCII file called DRGOFFMG.TXT and it
can be loaded into any database that reads a comma delimited ASCII file,
and can also be edited in any text editor such as Windows Notepad for your convenience.
The Drawing Office Manager allows you to manage your drawings effectively and
can be used for costing purposes as the time and resources spent on a drawing are all
stored in the file.
