Department of Education AllyCAD Orientation Workshops

receiving interactive demonstrations on AllyCAD and discussing the next phase of the software’s roll out in schools. AllyCAD has been offered to all secondary schools nationally that offer Engineering Graphics & Design and Civil Technology at no cost as part of Knowledge Base's social responsibility initiative.

The five venues visited for the subject component Civil Technology include:

• Oval North High School Mitchell's Plain - (South EMDC)
• De Kuilen High School Kuilsriver - (East and North EMDC)
• Dirkie Uys High Moorreesberg - (West Coast Winelands EMDC)
• Drosdey Technical High Worcester - (Breede River Overberg EMDC)
• Outeniqua High School George - (South Cape Karoo EMDC)

The venue for the Engineering Graphics & Design workshop will be held at Parow High School on Tuesday 4 July 2006. There are a total of 146 schools offering Civil Technology and 50 schools that offer Engineering Graphics & Design in the Western Cape. Each of these schools will have AllyCAD rolled out in their Khanye labs and the first batch of teachers has already received training with the balance due to receive training in the upcoming months.

We look forward to rolling out our software to other regions in the near future.

SELECTION FILTERS

The Selection Filters tool enables you to select specific elements within your drawing. You may select by entity type (line, arc text), by property (layer, color, text font) or even by text string. The dialog box will remain open while you are working in the program so that you may have instant access to the Selection Filters function.

SELECTION FILTERS

The filters are applied to all selection functions. If you therefore set up the filters to select only arcs, you will find that when you ‘Select All’, only the arcs and circles will be selected. In a similar fashion, when you select everything within a Polygon, only the arcs and circles within that polygon with be selected.

Once selected, the group of primitives is called the selection set. It is highlighted and surrounded by handles or nodes so that you may have the option to edit, move, mirror, scale, copy, rotate or even delete within the set. Note that if a layer is locked, you won't be able to select anything on it. You can see whether a layer is locked, and unlock it, in Layer Settings in the Settings Menu. Also note that if you want to select a hatch you can go to Selection Filters in the Edit Menu and click on the Hatch button. Crosses will appear on all the hatches on your drawing.
