AllyCAD & Civil Designer Student Awards

The annual merit award ceremonies recently took place at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT). These awards were issued to students who performed exceptional work in the 2005 academic year and who produced top-class Civil Engineering designs.

The Faculty of Civil Engineering & Surveying at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology, held their annual prize giving ceremony on Wednesday 17 May 2006 and the following prizes were awarded:

Mr A.J. Carstens and C. Coetzee (left) received a joint award for the Best Civil Designer Project. Mr M.H. Fakier (right) received the award for the Best AllyCAD project (1st Year). Congratulating them is Reece Hanning.

The award ceremony was attended by various industry representatives who amongst others included prominent members of SAICE, SAFCEC and SAGI. We are pleased to acknowledge the achievements and success of these emerging young professionals and congratulate them on their outstanding academic achievements.

Bitmap Handling

Bitmap handling has just become easier with the 'Batch Load Bitmaps' functionality. With this function, you can load bitmaps of supported types from a selected directory. This makes for easier file management as you will be able to store all your maps, aerial photographs, scanned in pictures of components and even your company logo in a single directory.

The most frequently encountered file types that the program supports includes JPEG, TIFF, BMP, ECW and MrSID. In order to facilitate the automatic placement of these bitmaps, a world file of the same name as the bitmap must exist in the same folder. AllyCAD supports the following standard world files: LOG; TFW; SDW and HGR geo-referenced bitmaps. For Southern Hemisphere drawings, the sign of the co-ordinates in the world file will automatically be reversed.

BITMAPS

You can access the function in the File menu by selecting the 'Load - Batch Load Bitmaps option. AllyCAD handles very large bitmaps and after the initial time pre-processing when you load a new bitmap, the program will allow you to load, zoom and pan to the largest bitmap within a few seconds. You can also annotate the bitmap or trace over it to build up your drawing. This new feature in the upcoming version will allow you to display multiple large bitmaps from a specified directory allowing for improved performance in record time.
