Product News & Information

THE DRAWING OFFICE MANAGER
In today’s newsletter, we explore the Drawing Office Manager in
greater detail. The Drawing Office Manager is a handy feature in
AllyCAD that project managers may find particularly useful. This tool
allows you to keep a record of all details that pertain to a
drawing and affords greater control in project costing and
budgetary management.
You can access the Drawing Office Manager feature by selecting
‘File Menu, Save Options, Save Settings’ and checking the option
marked ‘Use Drawing Office Manager’. Once checked, this option
allows you to keep a record of each drawing, its description, the
draftsperson drawing it, the department it is being drawn in, the
paper size, scale and units used, the number of hours spent on the
drawing, the date it was last updated and plotted etc.

Drawing Description Dialogue Box
|
This information is stored in an ASCII file called DRGOFFMG.TXT,
which resides in your AllyCAD User folder. If you therefore log on
as Guest, the file will be stored in the \AllyCAD34\Users\Guest
folder. The information will be updated each time you save your
drawing and may be loaded into any database that reads a comma
delimited ASCII file. The content may also be edited in any text
editor such as Notepad or Wordpad.
Each record in the file refers to a particular drawing and is
stored on a single line, with fields separated by commas. Refer to
Tech Tip
T10023
for a more detailed explanation of the records.
The Drawing Office Manager allows vital drawing information to be
recorded and stored so that you can generate project management
reports and statistics in record time!

BUSINESS WARRIORS - GET YOUR PAIA DOCUMENTS
(Applicable to South African Business Owners only)
Some of you may already have heard about the Promotion of Access
to Information Act, otherwise known as PAIA. But did you know,
that if you do not submit a Section 51 Manual to the South African Human
Rights Commission by 31 August 2005 that you could be held liable for a
fine or even jailed? In order to avoid such criminal judgement,
you will be expected to:
-
draft a Section 51 manual for your businesses and trusts;
-
submit this to the SA Human Rights Commission;
-
post it on your website - if you have one;
-
and submit it to any professional body that you are a member of.
Since we know how valuable time is, we have included a useful
information resource in the form of Business Warriors that you
could access when completing your Section 51 manual. When you join
the
Business Warrior community, you get advanced warning about any
legislation that is likely to impact on the SME environment. You
will also receive the PAIA Section 51 Manual with each
registration. To join the Business Warrior community,

TECH TIP TUTORIAL
How to Load Bitmaps
This Tech Tip explains how to load bitmaps. AllyCAD can load many
different types of images...
To increase the redraw speed of large
bitmaps, AllyCAD creates a tiled bitmap file, this file has the
same name as the original bitmap, but with a BBF file extension.
The creation and location of the tiled file can be modified...

SKC Engineers |
“Of course, once the Windows version of AllyCAD was released, our
work has become even easier. The time savings are incredible. The
range and depth of functionality is enormous, in fact I believe
that AllyCAD is restricted at times by the available hardware! I
have often wondered if anyone has ever used AllyCAD to its full
capability."
