SELECTION FILTERS
In this week’s newsletter, we examine Selection Filters. This powerful tool
provides a means to select a specific section of your drawing. You may select
by entity type (line, arc text), by property (layer, color, text font) or even
by text string.
The dialog box will remain open while you are working in the program so that
you may have instant access to the Selection Filters function. Should you
wish to close the dialog box, then simply click on the Close button.

The filters control all selection functions. If you therefore set up the
filters to select only arcs, you will find that when you ‘Select All’, only
the arcs and circles will be selected. In a similar fashion, when you select
everything within a Polygon, only the arcs and circles within that polygon with
be selected.
Once selected, the group of primitives is called the selection set. It is
highlighted and surrounded by handles or nodes so that you may have the
option to edit, move, mirror, scale, copy, rotate or even delete within the
set.
To change from handles to nodes, you may use the option ‘Edit – Select Nodes’.
Alternatively, should you wish to change from nodes to handles, you may click on the ‘Select icon’
option.
Be sure to look out for the upcoming Tech Tips on how to use this incredible
tool!

CUSTOMER
SHOWCASE
A NAMIBIAN ALTERNATIVE
When you walk into the Habitat Research and
Development Centre (HRDC), you find yourself stepping back in awe as you admire
the structural masterpiece that greets you. The centre is built with virtually
zero cost low-grade material found in rural areas, allowing local residents to
be educated on the use of alternative building supplies for the construction of
affordable homes.
“We were extremely privileged to have been
appointed by project architect Nina Maritz, as the structural & civil engineer
on the assignment,” explains Rolf Trossbach, senior partner at Bührmann &
Partners, adding that the project was requested by the Ministry of Local
Government and Housing in response to a design competition that was won in
2002.
