AllyCAD User Group Workshops |

The Department of Agriculture received a successful AllyCAD presentation during the recent Mpumalanga user group meetings conducted on 23 - 24 May. The presentation was delivered by Regional Key Accounts Manager

David Bredenkamp and looked at the Importing of Shape Files, the Conversion of Shape Files into a DTM and the Importing of Aerial Photographs with Geo-referencing. Bitmap handling was also discussed at length.

IMPORTING AND EXPORTING IN AllyCAD
 |
AllyCAD supports the importing and exporting of AutoCAD 2007 drawings. It also allows you to export decimal-aligned text to AutoCAD with a point at the decimal position, which is useful for survey points.
In the current version, the Import Wizard automatically adjusts the drawing scale based on the selected paper size and units when reading the model space.

With cartesian drawings, there is an option to centre the drawing on the selected paper. This is automatically done for surveyor drawings. The Import Wizard does not appear when working with layouts as the scale, paper size and units are obtained from the drawing.
Users can also look forward to new functionality in the upcoming 3.6 version which will allow the use of twist scenarios for the importing and exporting of southern hemisphere DWG and DXF's. The user will then have the option on export to negate coordinates (the current means of exporting southern hemisphere drawings to AutoCAD) or to apply a twist of 180 degrees and thereby retain the same coordinate values. On import, if twist is present it will be used, otherwise the normal coordinate negation option will be used.
