Map Africa 2007

The 2nd Annual African Conference and Exhibition on Geospatial Information Technology and Applications
took place on the 29-30 October at the Cape Sun Hotel in Cape Town.
|

Approximately 250 delegates representing a number of African countries attended the conference
which held the theme 'Geospatial Capacity Building' and dealt with the critical issues behind the application of geospatial capability into the developmental goals of the African nations.
Research findings relating to the cadastral realities in informal townships and new models for cadastral definitions in rural areas where presented.

Surveying and Mapping Museum
A collection of surveying and mapping instruments and artifacts representing a wide range of equipment used by surveyors in South Africa over the past 300 years
can be viewed at the Surveys & Mapping museum in Cape Town. The oldest instrument is a simple
theodolite used by surveyors at the Cape in the early 1700s while the largest has a horizontal
measuring circle of 914 mm in diameter and is one of only four similar theodolites left in the world today. The museum exhibits may be viewed by the public free of charge.

The Survey Toolkit
