Hot & Cold Rolled Sections (Structural Toolkit)
This Tech Tip explains how to use the Steel Sections function in the Structural Toolkit.
Toolkit Menu › Structural... › Steel Section
When running the function the following menu will appear:

The first step is to set the required settings:
Enter sheet size
Enter the sheet size, where 0 = A0, 1 = A1, 2 = A2, 3 = A3, 4 = A4
Enter drawing scale
Enter the drawing scale for example 100 will give a drawing scale of 1:100.
Enter steel section line type
Enter the line type you for the steel section.
Enter steel section pen number
Enter the pen number for the steel section.
Enter text height (mm) ?
Enter the text height for any annotations in mm.
AllyCAD will then give the following prompt to warn you that it has changed the drawing units to mm.

Hot Roller Sections


I Sections
This option draws I cross sections
If you select this option AllyCAD will give you the following options:

I Section:
Select this option for a non-tapered I section
Tapered I Section:
Select this option for a tapered I section
Previous Menu:
Select this option to return to the previous menu

AllyCAD will then give the following options (left):
Select one of the following cross sections from the list of dimensions. All units are in mm and mass in Kg. Select More to show another list of dimensions.

AllyCAD will then prompt:
Position cursor
Indicate with the cursor the position you would like the steel cross section place. AllyCAD will then respond with the following options.

Rotate Section:
Select this option to rotate the cross section.
AllyCAD will prompt
Indicate point to rotate about
Select a point on the cross section about which you would like to rotate the cross section.
Enter angle from keyboard (else from cursor)
Select Yes to enter the rotation angle from the keyboard otherwise select No to indicate the rotation angle with the cursor.
Multiple Copy:
Select this option to draw multiple copies of the cross section.
Number of copies
Enter the number of copies you would like to make of the cross section.
Indicate repeat offset
Indicate with the cursor the distance and direction you would like multiple copies of the cross section to be repeated
Single Copy:
Select this option to draw a single copy of the cross section.
Enter point where you would like to copy selection set
Indicate with the cursor the point where you would like the cross section to be copied to.
Label:
Select this option to place a label on the cross section.
Enter text position
Indicate with the cursor the position where you would like the label text placed on the drawing.
AllyCAD well then give the following prompt:
Add arrow from label?
Select Yes to add an arrow to the label and No for no arrow. If you select Yes,
AllyCAD will prompt:
Indicate tail of arrow
Indicate with the cursor the position where you would like the tail of the arrow placed
Indicate head of arrow
Indicate with the cursor the position where you would like the head of the arrow placed.
Continue:
Select this option to return to the main menu
H Sections
This option draw H cross sections
 H Section

 H Section Piles

H Section:
Select this option to draw an H section
H Section Piles
Select this option to draw H section piles
Previous Menu
Select this option to return to the previous menu
AllyCAD will give exactly the same prompts and options as described in the I sections, except that different dimension will be displayed in the dimension list. Proceed in the same way as for the I sections.
Channels
This option draws channel cross sections
 Din Taper

 BS Taper Flange
|

 SA Parallel Flange

If you select this option AllyCAD will give you the following options:


AllyCAD will give exactly the same prompts and options as described in the I sections, except that different dimension will be displayed in the dimension list. Proceed in the same way as for the I sections.
Angles

If you select this option AllyCAD will give you the following choices:


AllyCAD will give exactly the same prompts and options as described in the hot rolled I sections, except that different dimension will be displayed in the dimension list. Proceed in the same way as for the hot rolled I sections
Plate Girders
This option draws plate girders
 Plate girder cross section
There is no submenu specifically related to plate girders. AllyCAD will give exactly the same prompts and options as described in the I sections, except that different dimension will be displayed in the dimension list.
Proceed in the same way as for the I sections.
Cold Roller Sections
If you select this option AllyCAD will give you the following options:


Lipped Zeds
This option draws lipped zed cross sections

AllyCAD will give you the following options:


AllyCAD will give exactly the same prompts and options as described in the hot rolled I sections, except that different dimension will be displayed in the dimension list. Proceed in the same way as for the hot rolled I sections.
Top Hat
This option draws top hat cross sections
 Top hat cross section
There is no submenu specifically related to top hat cross sections. AllyCAD will give exactly the same prompts and options as described in the hot rolled I sections, except that different dimension will be displayed in the dimension list. Proceed in the same way as for the hot rolled I sections.
